Howard County offers the perfect combination of historic charm and modern amenities.  This mixture of both the old and new and urban and rural communities offer a warm welcome to everyone.  It is located in the heart of Central Maryland between Baltimore and Washington, D.C.  The County is proud of its school system that has been recognized for its excellence, a world class arts scene, an award-winning library system, and its many varied parks and natural beauty.

Every town in Howard County showcases its uniqueness.  The growing, urban center of Columbia received the #1 spot on Money Magazine’s 2016 list of The Best Places To Live in America — The Best Small City in the U.S.  On June 21, 2017, Columbia will celebrate its 50th anniversary.  It was built on 4 guiding principles:  1) Build a complete city, 2) Respect the land, 3) Provide for the growth of people, and 4) Make a profit.  Each neighborhood in Columbia is built around a Village Center which provides the atmosphere of a small town, but with city amenities.  “The People Tree” is one of Columbia’s most symbolic sculptures capturing the goal of fostering an inclusive, diverse community.  Merriweather Post Pavillon is located in downtown Columbia within the picturesque setting of Symphony Woods.  It is also celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2017 and continues to be an outstanding venue for all genres of music.
The town of Ellicott City is proud of its “jewel” – Main Street in old Ellicott City.  Nestled in the Patapsco Valley, you will find unique shops, historic charm, restaurants, and performance venues.  Elkridge is Howard County’s oldest settlement.  At the Belmont Manor and Historic Park, you can experience afternoon teas, movie nights,  and ghost tours.  It also features one of our country’s oldest railroad bridges that is still in service – Thomas Viaduct.  The town of Savage was a former busy Mill Town and an important manufacturing hub in the Northeast for more than 100 years.  The Savage Mill Historic District has kept many of the original buildings including specialty shops, galleries, antique shops, restaurants, and many other businesses.  Beautiful, open spaces characterize Western Howard County.  Here you will find a rich agricultural heritage.  It is home to the Howard County Fair, the Living Farm Heritage Museum, and the Old National Pike Milestones which can still be found along Rte 40.
You can find whatever you are looking for in Howard County with its energetic, thriving economy and its high quality of life.  Come visit dairy farms, cornfields, stables of horses, spectacular new homes, hike along the trails in the State Parks, and enjoy the large areas of open space integrated into each community.
