This holiday is always celebrated on the last day of August. It’s hard to believe Summer is almost over, and children will soon be going back to school. Summer is traditionally a time to celebrate being outdoors. The weather is warm and, hopefully, sunny.
Since the days of the caveman, people have been eating outdoors. However, people now eat most of their meals indoors. So, mix things up a bit, grab a picnic basket and a blanket and head outdoors for a meal. Of course, you can always go to an outside cafe to eat. That counts also as getting outside. You can stay in your own back yard or head to the local park. It’s a great opportunity to gather with family and friends.
We do not know who created this holiday, and it is an “unofficial” or “fun” day.
picnics began as a meal break for hunters while hunting, and sidewalk cafes first appeared in Manhattan in New York City in the early 1900’s.
